The
PHOENIX
PERFORMANCE SYMPOSIUM
OF
SAN FRANCISCO
in the ancient Greek Style:
"A convivial meeting for drinking, music, and intellectual discussion" -
THEME
"from the stage to your hearts"
Singer and Audience Communication
There is much to be done in our world to expand our cultural participation and understanding. One of the ways to help, we believe, is to empower our young people to keep their hopes and dreams alive
through the arts.
Creating a high level of musical, artistic, philosophical and spiritual discussions within our societies,
may help to establish new ideas and firm commitments to preserve the arts. In addition, education of audiences
could lead to a greater public support of
performing artists.
In ancient Greece people came to a symposium to drink, listen to music and philosophize. Through that practice the symposium came alive and brought people together through sharing their thirst for knowledge, their own ideas, at the same time enjoying the talents of artists and musicians in their midst.
This year BASOTI is delighted to bring to you again
the
PHOENIX PERFORMANCE SYMPOSIUM
of San Francisco
in the ancient Greek Style.
Singers will explain their opera arias and songs, translate the language if it is a foreign one, and share what they find appealing in the music or text. The audience will respond after the evening's presentation with questions and remarks about the performance.
The audience will be served champagne for their drinking pleasure while listening to the concert, and all will enjoy a lively discussion thereafter.
It is our hope that the singer and the audience get to know each other better - that singers get a feeling for the listening power of the audience and the audience can gain insights into the material sung and the singers.
Without the joy of singing, acting and dancing, we will plunge into a material-based world. A world without imagination or dedication to the higher and finer things in life is bound to deteriorate.
The concerts are held at the 7th Avenue Presbyterian Church and the Church of the Incarnation in San Francisco. With a Steinway grand piano, 16 singers will perform in each concert, accompanied by members of the coaching staff of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
